The Darkness Is Done- Song Insight

song written 2006-2007 MP3 RA WMP

This is a song of fervent hope and faith in what God will do. Many of my songs have been songs of testimony, things that I have experienced. This one is not. It is not a song of what I have seen and heard, but of what I have yet to see. The Word of God speaks of so many things that are FAR beyond what I have ever experienced. Faith is belief or trust that these things are true. We can have an unfaltering faith about the things God has promised. Even if we don't see them, we can be filled with hope, because God said so. That is faith.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. -Hebrews 11:1

I just love Bible promises that are too big and amazing for me to understand. They burn in me a powerful hope (faith) that there is so much more to God than I know, so much more goodness to yet be revealed. We may never see the promises God has given us come to pass in our lifetime. But that's fine, we don't have to see them. We just have to believe HIM.

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, -Hebrews 11:13a

Hebrews chapter 11 in the Bible is all about faith. It starts out with defining it, then lists many people and their actions that were filled with faith. We call it the Hall Of Faith. (And I am pleased to note that my name Barak is listed there, even if it is at the end where he says he doesn't have time to tell you about those people. But something I noticed just recently is... Even though he says he doesn't have time, he does go on to list the acts of faith that those people did. One act is "waxed valiant in fight", I can especially connect with that one because my middle name is Valour.) So look over that chapter. It is a good place to start learning about faith. Think over or look up the accounts of those people back in the Old Testament, they are very inspiring examples of faith.

Each of us have a gifting from God. It is our life purpose. I am so encouraged when I see someone who is continuing in their gifting even when up in years. When I see someone in their 70s, or more who is still following God, still practicing their gifting for Him, it speaks so much to me. I want to be just like that. Perhaps someone has a calling to declare the truth of God, and after 50, 60 or 70 years you see them again, and they are still declaring the truths of God with such zeal and enthusiasm you would think they had just found Jesus that morning. Then you find out they had, they find Him every morning, just like they have been doing since the day of their salvation.

On the other hand it is so sad to see one who has neglected his gifting. Maybe they started out with much vision and hope (faith) in what God was doing, but over the years they began to doubt. Perhaps a young married couple gains from the Word of God a strong multigenerational faith that they should raise many godly children. But over the years they see that things aren't going well, it's too much work, too much sacrifice, and it's not working. So they loose hope, throw up their hands, and say "Oh well, we tried". Or there could be an evangelist, who starts out leading people to personal salvation in Jesus all the time. But as the years wear on, he starts to think "I've won a lot of people to the Lord, I think I've worked hard enough, it's time for me to relax now".  That would really leave a sick, sadness in everyone looking up to him. Don't do that, be an encouragement. Do the right thing. Whatever your gifting, use it. All the time, everyday. Think... "What gift has God given me?What did He make me good at? How has He used me in the past?"  It's a gift, that means it's not something you're going to have to pay for. Take God's grace and practice it, get your best at it!

A main purpose of this song is to bring back hope to those who have lost it, especially the elderly. That they may practice their gifting once more. Peter lost hope for a while. He thought he loved the Lord, then he denied him. He felt such remorse that He repented and never denied the Lord again. He had a personal experience that never left his mind and gave him the faith to live for Jesus. He went on to serve Jesus' church for many years, and yet does today through his letters.

The song closes with a verse based on where Jesus was explaining what it is to be born again. The Holy Spirit will guide you into many good ways. He is unpredictable, you can't tell where He will move next. But you can always be confident that it will be a good move. And that is a great place to be, riding on the wind of God's Spirit.

The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. -John 3:8

As long as I am living, may my hope in God be living.
