Call Things Like God Calls Them

This article is mainly written for those who have already believed on Jesus as their personal savior. If that's not you, start here, or here. They talk of the same thing.

We need to call things like God calls them. What God calls good, we need to call good; and what He calls bad, we need to call bad. Basically, it's agreeing with God. "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." "And grieve not the holy Spirit of God." (John 14:26, Ephesians 4:30a) We need to open our hearts to the Holy Spirit, so He can teach us. And when that reveals something wrong in us we need to confess it as sin. Don't ignore it, or cover it over, just 'fess up. Agree with God, sin is sin, name it as it is.

Here are some verses on the wonderful gifts known as confession and repentance...

  • It all starts here, repentance at conversion to God. Acts 26:20b "that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance."
  • To believers. Revelation 2:5 "Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works;"
  • Release to God! Receive His mercy! Proverbs 28:13 "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy."
  • Be like God is, holy. 1Peter 1:15-16 "But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."
  • Freedom takes confessing to people too. It builds accountability, humility, and brings grace. God gives grace to the humble. If we are hiding our sin from the ears of others, we won't get the grace to beat it. James 5:16a "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed."
  • 1John 1:8-9 "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." See chapters 1 and 2.
  • But don't stop there. Realize that God has given you victory! As many scriptures attest, Jesus beat sin in our lives! This is what God says, personalize it!...
  • I am a new creation, all is become new (2Corinthians 5:17)
  • My old body of sin is destroyed, I do not serve sin (Romans 6:6)
  • I love the Lord with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength (Matthew 22:37)
  • I am free from the Law of sin and death (Romans 8:2)
  • God thinks good of me, thoughts of peace and not evil (Jeremiah 29:11)
  • Calling things like God calls them has two sides. We could only focus on one (either what God calls good, or what God calls bad), but we would be missing part of God. If we just focus on the sin, and calling it bad, but never mention the righteousness God imparted to believers, we would be making a great lack, and never notice the joy of Jesus' freedom. On the other hand, if we only confess God's gift of righteousness and never confess our past sin, our sin will just sit and fester, clouding our relationship with God. We need to get what we have been out in the open to gain some practical freedom and deliverance for now and the future. Just can't whitewash what we were. Not that we ARE sinners in the since of an ongoing and continuing present state, but that we WERE, and now are overcomers.

Matthew 11:12 "And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force." Gotta' root out the sin, and claim God's victory! It's a thrilling fight brothers and sisters. God is the winner every time!
